From research to implementation
"I was always fascinated by the combination of engineering and life sciences" says Magdalena Pilatou, a Greek PhD student from the Biophysical Techniques Group of the Applied Physics Faculty. And adds: "In the beginning, my main goal was to obtain a background in biophysical/biomedical engineering. I wanted to have a career in this field, either in a company or in a university. But as time passed, I realised that I would like to do something more than research. Although it is very interesting, it is also very 'lonely' and it restricts you to your field of specialisation. Now, I would like to be in a more 'wide' environment, where I can have intellectual interaction with many people. Moreover, I would like to work on issues that arise from the implementation of science and technology in the modern societies, like education, ethics and technological development. My purpose is to continue working in a non-profit organisation, with an international orientation and in a multidisciplinary environment."
