Romanian hopes for double hit

The Romanian Raluca Marin-Perianu, a thirty year old post-doctoral researcher, was awarded the Christiaan Huygens Science prize this year and will receive an amount of 10,000 euros and a bronze sculpture. The prize is awarded every year by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Science (KNAW) to a doctoral candidate who has made an innovative contribution to the advancement of science. Marin-Perianu worked in the research group Pervasive Systems at the faculty EWI and graduated in November 2008. Her research is in the area of wireless sensor networks, possessing the ability to communicate with each other. The UT researcher was nominated this past summer for the same research project by the Simon Stevin Fellow prize, supported by the Technology Foundation STW. Marin-Perianu, along with two other nominated candidates, will present her research at the STW congress and a public jury will decide who will be awarded the prize on October 8, which falls on the day after she will receive the Christiaan Huygens prize.
