Each Dutch city holds their own unique celebration, and in Enschede this is done in the heart of the city. On the Van Heekplein at 9am, music will be organized by event bureau Absolutely Fresh.
As in past tradition, the mayor of Enschede, Peter den Oudsten, will give a speech followed by a toast to visitors with a glass of oranjebitter which is strong Dutch liquor in honor of the royal family. There will be plenty of live music, dance performances and special events in the city center until 9pm.
You will also find children and adults selling their castaway household items on city streets.. Similar to a flea market, this is called `vrijmarkt' or free market. For children this year in Enschede, this is called `matjesmarkt,' situated on the Zuidmolenplein.
