The first pole for the new building of the School of Management and Governance was officially driven into the ground last week. At the beginning of next year, the first employees will take up residence.
The construction of the Ravelijn building was started with this official act. The complex will consist of two wings and five floors between the Cubicus and Citadel. The residence is designed by Mas Architecture in Hengelo and will offer room to house 350 employees and over 2,200 students. Construction will cost about 25 million euros and will take approximately three quarters of a year to complete..
The first employees are supposed to take up residence early next year and with the start of the academic year 2010, everyone should be settled.
The School of Management and Governance (MG) finally will return after eight years off-campus. Following a fire in the then TW/RC building in 2002, the MG had to move to the Capitool building, located near to the Drienerlo station and the Grolsch Veste. Earlier plans to house the MG in the Citadel and the former Ravelijn were brushed aside when those buildings were deemed insufficient for the expected number of students and employees. That is why partial construction was needed.
Dean Paul van Loon of the School of Management and Governance complimented the Executive Board with their choice for the new building and spoke approvingly about the new housing that is supposed to be `very innovative.' `We visited a number of schools and from those we got some good ideas for the interior. The building will be for consultations and encounters with high-tech facilities in the fields of IT, low-energy lighting and digital technologies. It will be the very picture of modernization.'
