The Indian Students' Association at the University of Twente (ISA@UT) successfully brought a slice of India to Holland through their attempt to celebrate Holi on the Calslaan grounds on Saturday, March 15. The admission to the event was free, thanks to the financial support provided by the International Office. The brightly-hued paints were provided for by the event organizers.
With more than 40 guests, daubed in yellow, blue, green, red and the entire colors of the spectrum, the success of the event was quite obvious. The organizers had arranged for a variety of games, which enhanced the general atmosphere of fun and revelry. The games included— a running race, tug-of-war and pin-the-tail on the donkey— to name but a few of the outdoor activities. Sporting dazzling smiles, guests were exhausted after all the running around. The enticing Indian buffet, catered by the popular Indian restaurant Bombay Spice, helped to recharge the batteries of the weary participants. The menu included snacks; such as, samosas, Indian breads and flavorful rice dish, spicy Indian vegetables and a sweet dish called kheer, which is made of sweetened milk.
Nilesh Kothale, one of the main organizers of the event, said that he was especially encouraged by the large turn-out of international people. One of the main goals of the association is to showcase the Indian culture to the international community at the UT through the celebration of various Indian festivals. `It was a lot of fun,' said one of the guests. `We can't wait for next year,' shouted another. Obviously, the colors of Holi had worked their wonders.
