The Supervisory Board of the ITC has already agreed on the merger, however, the UT's Board has yet to offer their decision. The Business Council and the University Council are expected to give their decision within the next two months. In the coming two years the precise positioning of the ITC, as it becomes embedded within the UT structure, will be established. A close cooperation between the ITC and the UT already exists in various fields of research.
For the UT, the merger is a way to strengthen and expand its international network in the field of education. About ninety percent of the students at the ITC are from abroad, mostly from Asia, Africa and South America. For the ITC, this merger opens the way to receive Dutch research funding. The ITC teaches on the levels of management training, higher professional education and university education. The institute employs about 240 people of which 16 are professors. In 2006, nearly 1,400 new students enrolled.
