Animal stories by Toon Tellegen
Dutch writer Toon Tellegen, recent winner of the prestigious Constantijn Huygens literature prize, is mainly known for his slightly absurd animal stories, honored by young and old. They are situated in a forest where the animals have human traits. The stories are hugely original - Tellegen translates his philosophical thought twists in both funny and gripping plots.
It may be a problem for you that he's reading the stories in Dutch, but Tellegen has a nice warm voice and you will pick up his ironic intonation. And of course there's Van Binsbergen's ensemble that ingeniously colors the stories.

'Der rote bereich' is German for 'red light district'. Which insinuates that this German trio makes hot music, while going in the red, at times far beyond it! Frank Möbus is the leader. Ask a jazz connoisseur a hot list of modern European jazz greats - big chance that Möbus is one of the first he will mention. His guitar playing is original and brutal and stays far away from the sustained tone of traditional jazz guitarists. But don't think that Rudi Mahall and Oliver Benrd Steidle are blown off the stage! Mahalls bass clarinet groans, flutters and moans - his playing has intense, deep feeling. Steidle provokes all kinds of stuttering rhythms out of his drums, only to caress them with love a moment later. This proves that in 'der rote bereich' gnarly dirtiness comes with warmth and subtlety.
