'The energy crisis is going to hurt all students'

The financial consequences of the energy crisis will also be felt by students, with monthly rates that are about 100 euros higher than they are now. This is the warning given by UT PhD candidate Nando Tolboom, who will be holding an information session in the Waaier next week. 'Behavioural change is the best way to ease the pain.'

Ook studenten gaan snel en langdurig de financiële gevolgen van de energiecrisis voelen, met maandtarieven die zo’n 100 euro hoger liggen dan nu. Daarvoor waarschuwt UT-promovendus Nando Tolboom, die volgende week een informatiebijeenkomst houdt in de Waaier. ‘Met gedragsverandering kun je de pijn het meest verzachten.’

‘We are paying for apartments we can’t use’

Because of the corona crisis, many international students are not able to live in their apartments. ‘Yet we are not allowed to terminate our contracts,’ says Anny, UT student from Colombia. She is putting together a group of students who rent from Xior and Camelot, in order to get the UT to help mediate with the companies.

UT student develops app ‘to make students’ lives easier’

‘We mainly want it to make students’ lives easier and reduce their costs,’ UT student Vincent Diks (19) describes Studentenstal, an app he launched recently. The platform is designed specifically for student houses, which can use it to track their costs, food and household chores.

Lisa Waldera (24) is a master’s student Communication Studies from Bremen, Germany. For three years now, she’s been living on campus. Next to her study, she regularly visits the cinema and enjoys concerts of all music genres. Every other week she writes about her life at the University of Twente.
