Why did I, as an oio employed by FOM, not receive an increase in salary as the UT promised? What should we do about the confusion in EL P&O in calculating the oios' new salary?
Last year the UT declared that aios and oios are the same, both in rights and in tasks. To our knowledge some oios have already started to receive the difference in salary, for example in the Chemistry Faculty. Anyhow, if this anomaly persists in your faculty for one more month you should contact the faculty board and complain about the miscommunication between P&O and oios.
What do I do about the fact that bureaucracy in TN delays the PC acquisition for oios?
Oios in the first and second year are a problematic group because there are just a few and the UT needs a special policy only for them. It does not mean that they are discriminated against, but they are pushed to the end of UT P&O priority list. The most direct way to solve this matter, in case the local P&O do not help, is complaining to the faculty dean.
What about free or cheap and intensive long term Dutch courses organised by the UT for all PhD students?
Part of each PhD budget (approximately f 10,000) is earmarked for taking courses, including Dutch courses. In case you take Dutch courses at the UT the cost will be subtracted from your budget. These types of courses (2 hours per week or five days once) are either short term and intensive or not intensive at all, but they are not expensive. In case this amount is zero, the UT will not pay for Dutch courses anymore.
Can you tell us a bit more about extension of contract in case of an unfinished PhD thesis?
To our knowledge the UT was the only university in the Netherlands that had a flexible policy towards contract extension but this situation might vary from faculty to faculty. It is a matter of money but also a matter of supervisor, because your supervisor should decide if it is possible for you to finish the thesis in a half a year, which is the maximum extension allowed.
