Queen's and chaos's Day Or My first Koninginnedag

Some people told me that it was a good idea to go to Amsterdam to celebrate Koninginnedag, and no one told me that eventually it was going to be impossible to come back to Enschede safely. Some people told me that it was a good idea to go to Amsterdam to celebrate Koninginnedag, and no one told me that eventually it was going to be impossible to come back to Enschede safely. But both things were true.

It's astonishing to be in Amsterdam for the celebration because the streets are like a big party, you walk around dancing, everyone is in a great mood, you see the most outlandish hats you have ever seen, and, most of all, it's like being in a huge parade in which diverse people from all over the world are mixed.

In addition, I was really amazed about the way in which things were proceeding, very festive and calm at the same time, as if everybody had seen an inscription I saw on one t- shirt next to the Queen's picture: "Respect my authority".

But that sensation of safety wasn't going to last.

After resting for a while in the Vondelpark, some others and me decided to start our way back. We arrived at Central Station and then had to wait there for three hours (in the meantime we tried to go out of the station but the front door was locked and all its glass was broken).

Finally we managed to get into a train that was supposed to go to Amersfoort. However, after moving a few meters, the train suddenly stopped. After a while all the lights and the air-conditioned were turned off. I don't know how long we stayed like that but it was enough for a girl to faint and for a man to have an asthma attack.

Then, we went out of the train and someone who was very angry started to shout to an employee of the train company. At that moment I also saw another girl having a claustrophobia attack... Too much!

It took us a total of seven hours to come back.

The whole day was like a daydream, from the vision of the parade of such unusual people to the nightmare of the chaos in the station.

I can't say that it was not something else, or that I won't remember it with an smile, but next year I will seriously consider to celebrate Koninginnedag in Enschede, just going around, seeing the peculiar things people sell here and, most importantly, going home on my beloved and punctual bicycle.
