The faculty of Computer Science (INF) has its 20th anniversary this year, and will celebrate this memorable fact with a large number of anniversary activities.
Until twenty years ago the field of computer science was put administratively in faculties like mathematics, electrical engineering, or business studies. At the start of the eighties the programmes shoot up like mushrooms, and in one go there are as many computer science programmes as there are academic institutes. In most cases the young sprog is housed within the existing faculty of Mathematics.
Only the 'Technische Hogeschool Twente', as the UT was called then, does it differently. Computer Science is an independent programme and not a part of Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or Business Studies. The faculty calls this wise and can now thank its 20th anniversary to this decision.
Both the study society Inter-Actief and the faculty itself will organise a number of anniversary activities.
*Inter-Actief has a planned an intensive celebration week from 28 May up and including 2 June. After an opening and a reception on Monday and Tuesday a symposium on 'interfaces' will take place, organised in co-operation with the Alumni-society ENIAC. On Wednesday night there is combined dinner-film night; Thursday will feature Chriet Titulaer, Hans Bohm and comedy, on Friday the week will be concluded in style with a gala-dinner - providing an alternative is found for the visit to Miracle Planet which was planned originally.
*From 28 June a collage of images from the past twenty faculty-years will be shown on the videowall near the entrance of the computer science building.
*In September the faculty will organise a celebration week, consisting of a symposium on Wednesday 19 September, followed by a faculty excursion on Thursday and a concluding party for all members of staff of the faculty on Friday 21 September.
