Qiyun Wang is at the end of a phase: he is writing his PhD-thesis. In that way, he will finish his PhD in Computer Support for Multimedia Curriculum Design, in the Faculty of Educational Science and Technology.
A lot of things have happened to him during the past four years. At a personal level, no less than having a son. Thus, he became a proud father living on campus with his family. Qiyun Wang explains: "Having a son was the best thing that happened to me here. We live on campus and I enjoy the university life here very much. The campus is beautiful, clean and quiet. Most people here are very kind and warm-hearted. The only problem for me is the language, I cannot read or speak Dutch so sometimes I don't know what is happening or will happen, such as a cycle race or a volleyball match, and because of that I miss things".
His plans were also altered by time: "When I came here I was planning to go back to Shanghai after finishing. I wanted to be a teacher at the East China Normal University, where I studied. But then that idea of coming back changed because the salary gap between universities and companies became bigger and bigger in Shanghai, so I decided to take an assistant professor position in Singapore, where the gap is not so big", said Qiyun Wang but added: "But of course I would like to go back to China in the future. If I can have a good working environment and a reasonable salary there I will be happy to go back. Meanwhile, I would like to get more professional knowledge."
