Erik is already employed by a company and he does not intend to change jobs soon even though "I do think that my degree will grant me better opportunities on the job market. The job of my dreams, however, is something I still have to find out. The company that I currently work for has a flat organisation structure and no opportunities to acquire a higher position."
Erik's colleague, Jun Wang is also very close to thesis defending. "My project is a study of the hydrodynamics of gas-solid flows in a vertical pipe. The project has been supported both by a company and the University of Twente. The application of the project is in petro-chemical industry." Jun has been in touch with the job market for several months and he knows what he wants. "I would like to go to a high-tech company where I can improve myself and contribute with my knowledge to the success of the company." Questioned about the advantages of a PhD-degree for a future career Jun answered "The future career is determined by someone's performance in the company and the ability to take advantage of an opportunity." According to both Erik and Jun most WB-aio's will look for a job in industry after finishing.
