Dulce Pumareja from the Philippines realised after finishing her Master in Educational Technology that she wanted to be in the computer sciences domain. She is now in the first year of a PhD programme in the Faculty of Computer Science.
In particular, she is developing a project about implementation of group work in organisations and she affirms that the UT has very good resources to do this kind of research. "Not only the economical but also the human ones. I find the exchange of ideas with my supervisors very fruitful. They give me independence to go where I like to go with my research but also provide me with their views about problems. It's very stimulating mentally", Dulce points out.
Dulce never considered doing this kind of study in the Philippines. "If I had been in my country, I wouldn't think about doing a PhD, I would be better off doing research for a company because PhDs are full time academic students there, you are not an employee as you are here and the salary is very low (in comparison to the ones offered by companies)".
When talking about the future, Dulce says: "I basically don't have any definite plans. I keep my options open. I'm watching closely how the government of my country is performing and if in the future I feel that the economic and political conditions of the Philippines look good, I would like to go back and work there. You never know what promises the future holds, and in the case of Information Technology, I'm sure it holds very interesting ones".
