Last week the University Council (UR) has given its support to Joop Sistermans who will function as member of the Executive Board (CvB) until 1 September 2002. The council wants to evaluate the functioning of the board and 'especially the rector/chairman' before 1 September with regard to the desired change in governing style.

The council has expressly not committed to the reorganisation of the faculties or the accompanying time frame, the turning over of the spearpoint institutes and the cutbacks in the services. 'Propositions to that end will have to be judged on their merits. Carefulness and sufficient support are absolute preconditions,' according to the council.

UT students invited by ESA to test octopus-inspired robot arm

A group of UT bachelor’s students was selected by the European Space Agency’s academy programme, to work on a project with an octopus-inspired tentacle that can remove space debris. This November, the team called RobOcto, is invited to test their prototype at the ESA ESTEC facility in Noordwijk.
