Jazz is difficult. It often has no melody to stick in the mind, it goes doobidoobidoo over three octaves and is impossible to whistle while cycling to university. Rock is easier. Simple melody lines and a strong rhythm appeal to a broad section of the public and it is therefore not surprising that a large part of contemporary pop music is based on this style of music. The René Engel Band plays jazz-rock. Difficult, but not overly so.
Those who want to gather some quick baggage, can do that at lunch time watching and listening to Michael Moore (saxophone, bass clarinet) and Michael Vatcher (drums, percussion). This duo, originally from America, plays freejazz: jazz with more than the usual amount of improvisation.
