Students at the Erasmus University Rotterdam will soon be prohibited from wearing a baseball cap at exams. Some of them have committed fraud by hiding notes under their visor.
The university plans to make its clothing regulations stricter in response to a number of incidents involving cheating, according to a spokesperson. Clothing that covers the face or eyes will be prohibited. The executive board feels it must always be possible to identify students, especially when they are taking exams or attending classes. If the university council approves the proposal, caps and burkas will soon be prohibited under these circumstances.
The Erasmus Medical Center already had clothing regulations for student interns and there are other universities with clothing regulations. The Free University of Amsterdam for example prohibits the burka and discourages wearing a cropped top.
