Yoruba storyteller

| Redactie

Atinuke is a Yoruba storyteller. Born in Nigeria of a very mixed cultural heritage, her family has roots in the Catholic, Jewish, Protestant, traditional African Animist and Voodoo religions. Brought up in Nigeria and the UK, Atinuke's stories tell of an ancestry from Yoruba lands, England, Spain, Portugal and China.

The stories Atinuke tells draw on all of these roots, moving between the ancient folktale world and modern contemporary life. She relates these tales in the traditional charismatic Yoruba style, which is emphatic and full of humor.

Stories of monkeys, sharks and little sons and daughters tackling the dangers of the oceans and the forests - surviving, thriving and dying with courage, joy, trickery, ignorance and trepidation. These stories exemplify what (and what not!) to do in the face of life.
