The Student Union is once again putting individual students, boards, and committees that made an exceptional contribution to student life in Enschede in the spotlight. Over the next three weeks, public votes will help determine the winners in six categories: active student of the year, entrepreneurial idea of the year, full-time and part-time board of the year, event of the year, and sports and cultural achievement of the year.
The nominees
Three candidates are competing against each other in each category. Students Luca Darius, Lars Kruitwagen, and Melissa van der Pol are vying for the title of ‘Active Student of the Year’, for example. The boards of rowing club Euros, volleyball club Harambee, and the Batavierenrace have been nominated for the title of ‘Full-time Board of the Year’. Part-time boards also have a chance of winning an award. This year, the nominees are ITC study association Orbit, boxing club Buitenwesten, and the Drienerlose Kite- en Windsurfvereniging Hardboard.
There is also an award for the best event of the year. The NK Klonkiebal, Apollo Dance Show, and student rave The Basement Project are competing for the title. Those interested in the sports and cultural award can vote for competitive rower Yvar Schukken, concrete canoe builders BetonBrouwers, and theatre sports association Pro Deo.
The final category focuses on entrepreneurship. This is the only category with two nominees. Student team HyDriven and Creative Technology student Colin Harmsen are the two contenders for ‘Entrepreneurial Idea of the Year’.

This week, the Student Union presented all the nominees through videos. Students and staff can vote for the nominees via the Student Union website. The awards ceremony starts at 19.00 on Thursday 15 October in the atrium of the Bastille.
The categories
Active Student of the Year: for the student who made an outstanding contribution to the student community in Enschede.
Entrepreneurial Idea of the Year: for students with their own business or an innovative project.
Full-time & Part-time Board of the Year: for boards that showed exceptional commitment to their association or initiative this year, with separate awards for full-time and part-time boards.
Event of the Year: for committees that organised an original or successful event.
Sports or Cultural Achievement of the Year: for students or teams who distinguished themselves through sporting or cultural achievements.
